PC Louie Day was killed after his black Vauxhall Corsa left the road and struck a tree between Chelmsford and Ongar shortly before 3.30am on Friday September 5.

Essex Police said the 23 year-old, who was a response officer on the MPS’s East Area Command, based out of Barking and Dagenham, died at the scene.

In a statement, his family said: “It is with greatest sadness that we announce the passing of our son Louie Day, a beautiful soul has left this world and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

“We would now like some privacy to grieve in peace.”

Inspector Mark Fraser, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Specialist officers are continuing to support his family and we are working to give them the answers they need about what led up to his death.

“We do not believe any other vehicles were involved in the collision and continue to appeal for anyone who saw or has footage of what happened or the moments which led up to it to get in contact.

“My thoughts are with Louie’s friends, family and colleagues at this really difficult time.”

Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell, who leads policing for the East Area said: “The Metropolitan Police are saddened to learn of the death of a serving police officer, following a collision in Essex on Friday, September 5.

“Police Constable Louie Day, 23 worked as a response officer on the East Area Command, based from Barking and Dagenham. He joined the team in January, having previously served for two years as a PCSO.

“We continue to support Essex Police with their investigation and thank them for the support they are providing to Louie’s family at this difficult time.
