T/Assistant Commissioner Nik Adams said: “I am extremely proud that City of London Police has been recognised with the Gold award. We have always had a strong relationship with the Armed Forces, and I admire greatly all our colleagues who serve or have served our country.

“We will continue to support our staff, and the Armed Forces community across the City of London, ensuring we are an attractive employer to those leaving the military and a place where everyone can thrive.”

Since signing the Armed Forces Covenant in 2022, City of London Police has received the Bronze, Silver and now the Gold awards. It was one of 24 Greater London organisations receiving the honour this year.

To be awarded a Gold recognition from the MoD, organisations must provide extra paid days leave for reservists, and have supportive HR policies in place for reservists, veterans, cadet force adult volunteers and the spouses and partners of those serving in the Armed Forces.

They must also advocate the benefits of supporting those within the Armed Forces community, by encouraging other organisations to sign the Covenant and engage with the Employer Recognition Scheme.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Spooner, chair of the Armed Forces Network, said: “On signing the Armed Forces Covenant in 2022, City of London Police set a challenging objective to achieve the Gold Employer Recognition Scheme Award within five years. We achieved that within three years.

“It is testament to the Armed Forces community within the organisation and the support from senior leaders and our partners that we have been able to make so much progress in a short amount of time.

“We will continue to ensure that those who serve, have served and their families are not disadvantaged for the sacrifices they have made and continue to make for the nation.”
