Former PC Mark Tyrrell faces a total of 21 criminal charges, including two of rape and 15 of sexual assault.

The 55-year-old, who was based in the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (September 4).

The MPS said the offending is alleged to have occurred between 2017 and 2023 and the charges all relate to one victim.

Tyrrell also faces three counts of perverting the course of justice, relating to allegations that he deleted messages, pressured the woman to provide false accounts, and lied during interview while under caution.

He faces a further charge of misconduct in public office for allegedly engaging in an inappropriate relationship with the woman, who he met during the course of his policing duties and he knew to be in a vulnerable position.

The charges follow an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

“We began our investigation in April 2023 after the Met made a conduct referral to us about the officer, who retired during our investigation,” the IOPC said.

A serving MPS officer will also appear in court charged with two counts of rape, three counts of stalking, three counts of controlling and coercive behaviour and three counts of voyeurism.

PC Jake Cummings, attached to Central West Command Unit, was due to appear for trial at St Albans Crown Court on Monday (September 2).

It follows an investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary, and the MPS said the charges relate to three female victims.

The MPS said its Directorate of Professional Standards is aware and PC Cummings has been suspended from duties.
