Police officers looking for exciting adventures, a new and dynamic role and sunnier climes… South Australia Police wants you!

Mar 12, 2024

The force from a land down under is offering the chance of a lifetime to 200 police officers from the UK and the Republic of Ireland… a job in Australia with a competitive salary, a generous holiday package, and fitness and health benefits!

Aspiring applicants have been invited to upcoming recruitment events in this country to meet South Australia Police representatives and find out more about the roles on offer and the emigration process.

The ‘Down Under Live’ expos will be held at Glasgow’s Hampden Park on 16 March, Dublin’s Temple Bar Hotel on 20 March and Birmingham’s Villa Park on 23 March. A London event will be held on 25 and 26 March at the Army and Navy Club on Pall Mall.

Sergeant Adam Bough was a patrol officer from the Metropolitan Police Service  before joining South Australia Police. He said: “South Australia is our home, we married here, the kids flourished in school and both are now at university.

“We were able to afford private education for them both, and we live in a great area overlooking the ocean with a swimming pool – it’s the stereotypical Australian lifestyle. Ultimately, we are English by birth but Australian by choice. We truly believe that none of this would have been possible if we remained in the UK.”

Successful UK and Irish applicants, who will need a minimum of three years’ experience in the last five years, will take part in a 15-week condensed training course before being deployed operationally.

Recruits will have a balanced work schedule of 38 hours per week and the option to work part-time or flexible hours. Police officers are generally double crewed at the force and South Australia Police will reimburse successful UK recruits the costs associated with obtaining a permanent visa for themselves and their families.

Chief Inspector Scott Collins was an officer in Thames Valley Police before joining South Australia Police. He said: “This is an organisation with a proud history and an exciting vision for the future. Policing opportunities exist across the State, from the thriving capital city of Adelaide to stunning coastal areas and more rural locations.

“South Australia continuously ranks as one of the most liveable places in the world, offering quality education and healthcare system, a much lower cost of living than our eastern counterparts, a vibrant and thriving city life and beautiful beaches and parks.”
