It follows the announcement earlier this month that Malcolm Graham will retire in April after almost five years as deputy chief constable. This comes after Deputy Chief Constable Fiona Taylor confirmed in November that she will also be retiring next month after five years in the post.

The SPA said it is now advertising for “two exceptional police leaders” to join Police Scotland’s executive team and support the chief constable to “shape the next important phase of policing in Scotland”.

SPA chair Martyn Evans, who will lead a panel to appoint the deputy chief constables, said: “These are significant leadership roles in the second largest police force in the UK.

“As we look towards the next important part of our journey, we are looking for deputy chief constables with commitment, energy and ideas to support the chief constable.”

The deadline for applications is 12pm on Wednesday, January 31. The SPA said it expects to announce the successful candidates in the spring.
