Officer who Tasered ten-year-old girl to face misconduct hearing
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has ruled than an officer from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) who Tasered a ten-year-old girl must face misconduct proceedings, despite the force clearing him of any wrongdoing.
Officers had been called to a property in southwest London in January last year following reports of a girl threatening a woman with gardens shears and a hammer.
One officer discharged his Taser at the girl who was uninjured but taken to hospital as a precaution. The MPS’s Directorate of Professional Standards reviewed the incident and found no misconduct.
However the IOPC today (February 8) told Sky News: “Our investigation into this matter has concluded and we have found a Metropolitan Police Service officer has a case to answer for gross misconduct in relation to the asering of a ten-year-old girl.”
The officer is understood to be on restricted duties and a misconduct hearing will be arranged in due course. It is understood the officer will face no criminal charges following an assessment of the incident by the Crown Prosecution Service.
