MPS officer dismissed for using racist term
An officer from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has been dismissed without notice after he used a racist term in a WhatsApp message with a colleague.
In June 2020, Police Constable Harry Chandler, based at North East Command Unit, exchanged WhatsApp messages with an officer colleague in relation to renting a flat.
Towards the end of the conversation, PC Chandler sent a message containing offensive and racially derogatory words.
A misconduct hearing, which concluded on December 17, found his conduct amounted to a breach of the standards of professional behaviour in relation to equality and diversity and discreditable conduct.
The panel, led by an independent legally qualified chair, found all the allegations proven and dismissed PC Chandler without notice.
Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Tucker, who leads the North East Command Unit, said: “Using language of this nature is utterly unacceptable and will not be tolerated. PC Chandler has rightly been held to account for his actions.”
