Man shot by police after officer slashed
A man is in hospital after being shot by Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officers in East London.
His condition is not yet known.
An officer sustained a non-life threatening slash injury during the incident.
The officer was responding to a report of a domestic disturbance in Knights Close, Hackney at 9.43pm on Tuesday (March 19).
The MPS said a 28-year-old man was reported to be armed with knives and making threats to kill.
Specialist firearms officers also attended the scene.
“One officer sustained a slash injury. Firearms officers were deployed and a male was shot by police,” a spokesperson said.
“He has been conveyed to an east London hospital; we await an assessment of his condition.
“The officer’s injury is not believed to be life-threatening. There are no other reported injuries.”
The MPS’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and the Independent Office for Police Conduct has launched an independent investigation.
