Officer faces attempted rape charge

A Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officer has been charged with attempted rape in an offence which dates back to 2012.

A Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) officer has been charged with attempted rape in an offence which dates back to 2012.

James McKibbin, a 30-year-old serving officer in the Richmond borough, was charged with the offence on November 7.

The incident allegedly occurred in South London while PC McKibbin was off duty and he is now on restricted duties.

A spokesperson for the MPS said: “The officer was arrested in April 2016, following an investigation by detectives from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command.

“The Met`s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed.”

PC McKibbin will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday (December 5).
