Officer charged over child sex offences

A Metropolitan Police Service detective has been charged with numerous child sex offences.

Detective Constable Chris Maitland, 40, based in the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, appeared at Westminster MagistratesÂ’ court on Friday (March 18) charged with two counts of sexual touching of a girl under 13, five counts of taking an indecent image of a child and seven counts of making an indecent image of a child.

Det Const Maitland, who is currently suspended from duty, was originally arrested on November 22, 2015 on suspicion of possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

He was subsequently bailed pending further inquiries and was further arrested on March 15, 2016 on suspicion of sexual touching.
