Cheshire Constabulary is investing in the health and wellbeing of its officers and staff to ensure they can deliver the best possible service to local communities. The establishment of a health and wellbeing centre at the constabulary’s headquarters in Winsford is the latest innovative approach to reinforcing Cheshire’s commitment to supporting staff.

The centre gives officers and staff access to a wide range of occupational health services, including physiotherapy and counselling, where and when they need it.

This latest commitment is part of Cheshire Constabulary’s wellbeing programme. By investing in staff health and wellbeing the force can build resilience across the workforce and improve the services it delivers, as research shows a healthy and supportive workforce can be a high-performing workforce.

Cheshire Constabulary has also become one of the first forces in the country to sign the ‘Blue Light Time to Change’ pledge, which commits the organisation to ending mental health stigma and discrimination in the workplace.

The health and wellbeing programme ensures leaders and supervisors are equipped with the knowledge they require to support and improve their teams. At a recent leadership conference, leaders heard from a range of wellbeing expects who talked about how important physical and mental wellbeing is to a successful organisation.

Chief Constable Simon Byrne said: “I’m proud of the work that my officers and staff do on a daily basis, that is why I believe we should do everything we can to support their wellbeing. As chief constable of Cheshire I want to ensure they have access to the support they require, where they need it, when they need it.”

Cheshire police and crime commissioner John Dwyer added: “It’s rewarding to hear about the work the Constabulary has undertaken to help improve the wellbeing of both staff and officers.

“Cheshire Constabulary is a caring organisation and I believe that this important programme of work will build on the professional way we deliver services here in Cheshire. I’m confident that this work will help lead to a healthier, more productive workforce, providing better value for money for the people of Cheshire.”
