Cheshire invests in mobile data

Mobile technology is to be rolled out across Cheshire Constabulary to allow officers to access police systems while out on patrol.

By the end of the year, each of the eight main police stations in Cheshire will have:

•Modern, fit-for-purpose IT systems to support effective briefing of officers and staff; and

•New facilities to support the allocation of mobile devices to officers so they can access intelligence without the need to return to the police station.

Cheshire police and crime commissioner John Dwyer said: “At the start of the financial year I approved a budget, which enabled us to invest money in technology and transform the current estate to enable officers to spend more time on the front line. Whenever I’ve spoken to local communities across the county, the same gripe kept reappearing – that officers aren’t visible enough. Investment in this technology is one way to combat this problem.

“To ensure that the new technology would work correctly, some of our police buildings had to be revamped or upgraded to ensure that the new mobile way of working delivers the improvements that Chief Constable Simon Byrne and I want to see.”
