Crime-fighting analytics moves to the cloud

IBM’s police database software i2 Coplink is moving to the cloud, enabling US agencies of any size to access advanced crime analytics capabilities.

It will allow police officers in different states to consolidate information from several sources, aid collaboration and help generate tactical leads.

Law enforcement professionals can generate photo lineups, save their search history and organise investigations to generate reports more easily.

It is used by 6,000 police agencies in North America and hosts approximately 1.1 billion shareable documents.

Law enforcement agencies will able to access data through desktops, in-vehicle mobile data computers or smart mobile devices.

IBM general manager of safer planet Robert Griffin said: “Access to the vast volume of law enforcement data hosted on the cloud can increase an agency’s ability to uncover hidden relationships in data, and also can help agencies establish crime patterns outside their own region and share information across jurisdictions using security features.”

The cloud-based model is part of IBM’s Safer Planet portfolio for public safety, intelligence, cyber threat intelligence and counter-fraud professionals.
