Gwent specials chief officer retires

The special chief officer for Gwent Police, Peter Howells, is to retire after 44 years of service.

The special chief officer for Gwent Police, Peter Howells, is to retire after 44 years of service.

Mr Howells, who started his Special Constabulary career in South Wales in 1969 before moving to Gwent in 1972, had been chief officer since 1996 and was awarded an OBE in 2005.

Gwent Police Deputy Chief Constable Lorraine Bottomley said: “I would like to congratulate Peter on his service with the Special Constabulary both in Gwent and South Wales Police, and indeed his other causes he volunteers for, and I wish him all the very best for his retirement.”
