Public sector organisations across Yorkshire and Humberside are being connected as part of a new Public Services Network (PSN) initiative. The Virgin Media Business network is one of the first PSN projects to be delivered through the Government’s PSN connectivity framework and has the potential to connect up to 52 public service providers, including the police, local authorities, health and other blue light services.

It will not only save costs on ICT infrastructure, but also make frontline staff more effective. With organisations connected over a single PSN-compliant network, staff will be able to share information much more readily and services will be more joined-up as a result.

For example, in the near future the local police could begin sharing workspaces with local libraries or schools by logging into police systems over the secure connection. This will help them make more efficient use of valuable police and local authority resources.

Partner organisations will benefit from access to a range of PSN-compliant solutions that can all be bought in one place under this single government framework. With multiple organisations on board, ICT (information and communications technology) purchasing costs can be spread more widely and organisations obtain better value from the market though aggregated spending. It means any organisation, large or small, will have access to the same technology at competitive prices.
