West Yorkshire Police has become the eleventh force to get a new chief constable this year.
The appointment of Mark Gilmore, who had been assistant chief constable at West Yorkshire before serving as deputy chief constable at Northumbria Police for the last 18 months, will go before the Police and Crime Panel meeting on February 8.
Mark Burns-Williamson, police and crime commissioner for West Yorkshire, said the extensive experience of Mr Gilmore, both with the force and in challenging areas such as Northern Ireland, convinced the panel he was the right candidate.
I am delighted to announce my appointment of Mark Gilmore as the new Chief Constable for West Yorkshire, he said.
Many of us have worked with Mark in the past and know him to be extremely enthusiastic and committed to policing and crime prevention in the county.
Mr Burns-Williamson also praised the exceptionally high standard of applicants, paying tribute to John Parkinsons work as temporary chief constable.
Mr Gilmore said: I feel hugely privileged to have been appointed as chief constable of West Yorkshire Police.
It will be an honour to work alongside the Commissioner and Command Team to deliver our shared vision for policing.
She said: “I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank Mark for his committed service to Northumbria and for the support he has given the force.
“The whole of Northumbria Police force joins me in congratulating Mark and in passing on our good wishes in his new role and for the future.”
