The assistant chief constable of Leicestershire Police, who was facing an investigation into alleged fraud and gross misconduct, threw himself under a train in Gloucestershire on Friday (October 19).

Gordon Fraser, who had risen through the ranks at West Midlands Police and joined Leicestershire in June 2009, was under investigation by Merseyside Police regarding a £2 million timeshare collapse on a property in Florida. Mr Fraser had been suspended from duty since the case was opened in December 2010.

Mr Fraser was due at court in St Albans on Monday charged with perverting the course of justice over a speeding offence, where his wife Teresa, also a police officer, was accused of taking penalty points for her husband.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police (BTP) said: “BTP officers were called to the railway line in Aston Magna, Moreton in Marsh, Gloucestershire, on Friday, October 19, following a report of a man being struck by a train.

“BTP and Gloucestershire Constabulary officers attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 12.20pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious. Paramedics from Great Western Ambulance Service also attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

A joint statement from Leicestershire Police and Leicestershire Police Authority said: “We are deeply shocked and saddened by the death of Assistant Chief Constable Gordon Fraser and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
