Hertfordshire Constabulary have appointed a new deputy chief constable.

Andy Adams, formerly an assistant chief constable at Kent Police, is replacing Heather Valentine in the role when she retires in August.

Mr Adam’s has been in the police service for 27 years, mostly in Essex Police, and has been at Kent Police since 2009.

Chief Constable Andy Bliss said: “We were looking for a Deputy Chief Constable with operational credibility, an ability to operate effectively in collaboration with our police partners in Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire and an ability to manage major transformational change.

“In addition we needed someone who could hit the ground running in challenging times. Andy Adams has a distinguished policing background in two forces that, bordering London, have many similarities to Hertfordshire. He strongly demonstrates the qualities that we are seeking. We are very much looking forward to welcoming him to the Hertfordshire team.”

Andy Adams said: “I`m delighted to be appointed Deputy Chief Constable of Hertfordshire.  It is a real privilege to be joining a modern, flexible, and effective force that puts the community at the heart of what it does”

David Lloyd, Chairman of Hertfordshire Police Authority said:  “I am delighted to be welcoming Andy to Hertfordshire.  He will be joining an excellent chief officer team and will be contributing to maintaining Hertfordshire Constabulary as one of the best performing forces in the country.”
