Norfolk police have appointed Gareth Wilson as its new assistant chief constable for local policing.

Mr Wilson, currently chief superintendent at Essex, replaces ACC Kevin Wilkins who is stepping down after 36 years in Norfolk.

Chief constable, Phil Gormley, said: “I am very pleased to welcome Gareth to the Norfolk Constabulary. We were fortunate to have a strong shortlist and he consistently demonstrated the values and drive that I and the authority want to see in managing the important area of local policing in the county.”

Chairman of Norfolk Police Authority, Stephen Bett, said, “Replacing Kevin Wilkins will be a difficult task. Nevertheless, Gareth impressed the Appointment Panel in a consistent way and we feel that he fits in well with the overall aims and objectives of the authority and the constabulary, and will work alongside our existing top team in delivering the maximum out of the force for the people of Norfolk.”

Gareth Wilson said he is delighted to have been appointed as the Assistant Chief Constable (Local Policing) for Norfolk Constabulary: “I am really pleased to be joining a high performing force and one that has the community at the heart of what it does.”
