Former Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) commander Ali Dizaei should be reinstated, the Police Appeals Tribunal has ruled.

Mr Dizaei, who was sacked from the force after being jailed last year for misconduct and perverting the course of justice, is believed to have won his appeal. He was released in May after spending 15 months in prison.

Following his release, the 49-year-old, who was also a former president of the National Black
Police Association, described his time in prison as hell and like “putting a hand in a wasps` nest” as he lived alongside individuals he had spent many years trying to bring to justice. He added that the appeal court’s ruling showed his integrity was “completely intact” and that he was determined to clear his name.

He said: “I am delighted to be reinstated. I have always wanted to be a Met Police officer and now vow to clear my name.”

He will face a re-trial next year.

The Metropolitan Police Authority said it will not be commenting at this time.
