The first joint child protection investigation team in the country is being launched in Hertfordshire this month. The team will aim to undertake 50 cases of alleged child abuse monthly and manage them through to completion.

Representatives from the constabulary and children’s services will be supported by the Hertfordshire Safeguarding Children Board. Operating from force headquarters, 24 police officers, seven social workers, two administrative staff and a case manager will share information and resources and undergo joint training. Each agency will lead on specific elements of an investigation, ensuring a more effective response.

Assistant Chief Constable Chris Miller said: “The launch of this unit is a watershed in terms of how agencies will work together more closely and dynamically in the future.”
