The longest-serving Asian special constable in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has been appointed MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list following his 38 years of service.

Gurcharan Singh Dhesi joined the MPS in 1973 and has put in many hours every year and works with young people and the local community in Bexley.

The 61-year-old said: “I am so happy to get this award. I have spent more than half my life at the MPS and I love it.

“I regularly work between 700 and 1,000 hours a year. It is such an honour to be recognised like this. I really enjoy helping young people and the community.”
