Crime-busting investigative journalist, Donal MacIntyre, is to front a series of TV adverts for SmartWater Technology Ltd, having witnessed first hand the influence that SmartWater has on criminal behaviour.

Mr MacIntyre has exposed criminal activity around the globe with his hard-hitting, undercover reporting, and has on many occasions put himself in harms way in the process. He became aware of SmartWater while working on his TV series MacIntyre’s Big Sting having spoken with organised gangs who were actively avoiding the forensic technology, and he was immediately fascinated with its ability to both detect and deter criminality.

Understanding both the technological capabilities of SmartWater as well as its wider potential to directly influence criminals, Mr MacIntyre approached the company, offering his support at no cost, to help spread awareness of SmartWater directly to the criminal fraternity.

SmartWater offers a proven risk management and crime prevention service that is used in a multitude of applications across the UK, and increasingly throughout the world. SmartWater uses state-of-the-art forensic technology to provide traceability for many of the nation’s utility firms including the UK’s power, telecoms and railway infrastructures.

The technology can also be used to protect individual items in people`s homes and is recognised as one of the most powerful criminal deterrents available.

Mr MacIntyre explained: “I have seen first-hand the huge deterrent effect of SmartWater. Criminals know what it is and the potential risk of capture and conviction that it represents. I have spoken to serious criminals who all say that SmartWater is bad for business and acts as their number one deterrent.”

“Fighting crime is a very tough job and the work that SmartWater is undertaking should be commended. I have come across many crime-prevention tools in my time, but none with the proven track record that SmartWater has established. I’m delighted to be associated with such a powerful brand and to raise awareness of the truly unique service that they offer.

“The SmartWater commercials that we have collaborated on are truly innovative because we are speaking directly to the criminal fraternity to warn them of the threat that SmartWater poses to their livelihood. This has never been done before and demonstrates the revolutionary thinking of SmartWater’s crime-prevention teams.”

The new SmartWater TV commercials each feature Mr MacIntyre presenting a CrimeWatch-style case study that re-tells an actual crime that was solved as a result of forensic evidence provided by SmartWater. However, to protect those involved, all names, dates and places have been removed.

SmartWater Chief Executive Phil Cleary, himself a retired police detective, said: “We were delighted when Donal approached us and are very grateful to him for donating a considerable amount of his time and effort to this project.

“There is no doubting his crime-fighting credentials, having put his very life on the line in the pursuit of exposing criminal activity. Donal is very passionate about combating crime using all available tools and techniques and he understands that SmartWater is one of the most powerful and effective systems available to do this.”
