For police forces around the world, information assurance is critical. TITUS Message Classification is an easy to use classification and messaging solution for police forces that ensures every Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Web Access email is classified and protectively marked before it is sent.
Today protective markings are widely used by police forces across the world including the UK. The Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) and the Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) are two of the organisations that mandate the Government Protective Marking Scheme.
These policies work to maintain the confidentiality, integrity and availability of information either owned by police forces, or entrusted by other organisations, or which it has shared with other organisations.
The policy aims to ensure that police forces efficiently and effectively manage the risks associated with the information they handle. Both ACPO and ACPOS also have a mandate to comply with the Community Security Policy (CSP) part of which relates to the protection and secure management of information assets within their organisations.
Protective marking is already in use in other parts of the world. Some countries have implemented marking standards as the norm, which includes Her Majestys Government (HMG) Security Policy Framework in the UK.
This Government Protective Marking Scheme (GPMS) requires that broad classes of government generated information, including email, be marked with an appropriate security marking and handled properly. In Australia, the Government Protective Security Manual mandates an Email Protective Marking Standard for all Australian government agencies.
Fife Constabulary is one of eight Scottish police forces. Fife`s IT department saw value in the TITUS product to help the force achieve compliance in areas of their security policy that pertain to information labelling, but it also became clear that TITUS could help the constabulary in becoming compliant with the British government`s Protective Marking Scheme.
