A former Cumbria Constabulary employee has been jailed for five years for committing a number of child sex offences.

A former Cumbria Constabulary employee has been jailed for five years for committing a number of child sex offences.
David Rooke, 51, was found guilty of inciting a girl under the age of 13 to engage in sexual activity and causing a child to watch a sex act. The offences relate to online MSN conversations between
Rooke and a girl under the age of 13.
The former civilian detention officer was found guilty of two counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13. The jury found Rooke not guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and one count of rape.
He was handed a five year sentence and a sexual offences prevention order for life. He has also been disqualified from working with children for life.
Rooke was immediately suspended from his post based in Kendal on May 28, 2009 after he was arrested by officers from Cumbria Constabularys Public Protection Unit. He has since been removed from his post.
Chief Superintendent Paul Kennedy said: We are appalled at David Rookes actions. We take offences of this nature extremely seriously and police officers across the county work tirelessly to ensure that sex offenders are caught and brought to justice which is exactly what has happened in court today.
