Microbus has unveiled a dual-illumination camera that offers increased automatic numberplate recognition (ANPR) performance.

The latest addition to its Rapier series, the Rapier 25+ dual camera provides twin infrared illuminators to increase range beyond 30m and give greater infrared intensity to match challenging lighting conditions and numberplate types.

The device has a secondary 10x optical zoom overview colour/black and white camera to provide contextual evidence to the ANPR data.

Using electronic zoom control allows installers to easily set an ANPR
recognition distance from 2m to 25m at the press of a button without the need for special lens or tools.

In addition, electronic set-up means only one camera model is needed for all sites to reduce costs.
Bi-directional communication is controlled via the AVML (active video markup language) protocol, allowing applications to ‘interrogate’ the camera for dynamic configuration updates and to provide useful asset management.

The infrared control circuitry allows frame-by-frame variations of illumination intensity for improved recognition of difficult-to-read numberplates.
