BTP enhances national intelligence and analysis

British Transport Police (BTP) is rolling out a new business intelligence platform to enhance its transit intelligence and reporting. The new platform will help BTP streamline and create efficiencies within its operations, surveillance and research systems, in order to enable greater visibility and improved response throughout the force.

Policing over six million passengers, on over ten thousand miles of railway throughout the country, every day, BTP was looking to implement efficiencies in both its daily intelligence and operations, while reducing overall force expenditures.

Working with consultants Capgemini, BTP is implementing the ‘Force Intelligence’ platform from search and business intelligence software company Endeca.

It will give BTP the ability to search across multiple operational systems of structured and unstructured data, through a single search interface. It is hoped that by doing this there will be “greater discovery and visibility into emerging crime trends and potential threats, enabling greater effectiveness of force deployment and pro-active management of resources”.

“Our aim is to improve our existing intelligence research capability and as a result, deliver a better service to the railway community. Early signs are promising,” said Assistant Chief Constable Alan Pacey of British Transport Police. “We look forward to realising the full potential of this application as we move forward.”

The software simplifies the integration of data from numerous source systems into a single unified index, enabling the analysis of information across the force.
