Greater Manchester Police (GMP) armed response officers were praised for their restraint after being shot at by a man with an air weapon.

Three armed response officers persuaded Jake Smith to give himself up after they realised from the sound of the shots that they came from an air gun. The 19-year-old was described as “extremely fortunate” to come out of the incident unscathed.

The officers had been called to a house in Oldham at 1.15 am on July 3 after Smith had allegedly threatened other people with what they described as a handgun.

Smith appeared before Oldham Magistrates Court on Monday (July 5) and will face charges of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence on July 26.
