An officer from Northumbria Police has been charged for 43 offences, ranging from serious sexual offences to misconduct in a public office.

An officer from Northumbria Police has been charged for 43 offences, ranging from serious sexual offences to misconduct in a public office.
PC Stephen Mitchell, 41, was arrested in Glasgow on Monday, January 18, by officers from Northumbria Police`s Professional Standards Department, who have been investigating the cases under the management of the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
Mr Mitchell, who has served at Newcastle and Northumberland area commands, was taken to a police station and charged on Wednesday, January 20, with 43 offences which are alleged to have taken place between 1999 and 2007.
The offences include seven cases of rape, 17 of indecent assault and 19 of misconduct in a public office. The allegations involve 19 people.
