Four officers and a member of staff from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have been summonsed to court facing charges of misconduct in a public office.

Following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) PCs Kenneth John Wilson, 39, and Kerry Louise Williams, 24, have been summonsed in relation to the alleged mistreatment of two 19-year-old women by the use of unlawful physical force.

PC Jason Charles Hanvy, 36, has been summonsed in relation to the alleged mistreatment of one of the women, and Civilian Detention Officer Kristina Hawkins, 32, has been summonsed in relation to the alleged mistreatment of the other woman.

Sergeant Andrew Paul Kennedy, 44, has been summonsed to face the charge in relation to an allegation that he failed to prevent the alleged mistreatment.

The summonses relate to an incident which took place at Collyhurst Police Station on 30 October 2008 during which it was alleged excessive force and abusive and threatening language was used on the two women detainees. The incident was investigated by Greater Manchester Police under the direction and control of the IPCC.

All five will appear before Manchester Magistrates Court on September 9, 2009.
