TETRA in the spotlight at world congress

This year’s TETRA World Congress takes place next week in Munich from May 26-29.
The congress combines a comprehensive conference with interactive seminars, social events and the world’s largest exhibition of TETRA (terrestrial trunked radio) equipment and applications.
This year, the congress is expected to attract over 2,500 visitors from over 70 different countries, with over 100 leading suppliers participating in the exhibition to discuss the latest developments and future requirements of TETRA.
The theme for this year’s congress is ‘TETRA: An Evolving Solution’. The conference will focus on how TETRA is evolving to meet the needs of today’s users.
The sessions will examine topics such as the latest development in data applications and the first TEDS (high-speed data) service implementation; new business models to spread the benefits of TETRA and reduce costs; the development of TETRA broadband; plus a new stream dedicated to using TETRA with complementary technologies.
Presentations feature representatives from all parts of the TETRA world, including the police, ambulance and fire and rescue services.
This year, the TETRA World Congress is co-located with the Critical Communications Congress. Focusing on the future of mission-critical communications, this new congress will explore:
•How to enhance the resilience of critical and emergency communications.
•Examples of mobile broadband technologies and applications for critical communications.

Digital network secures Cardiff
In the first deployment of a municipal TETRA (terrestrial trunked radio) network in the UK, Cardiff’s city centre partnership RadioNet has become the first retail management and security radio system in the UK to adopt Sepura radios.
RadioNet is a municipal partnership which provides communications services linking retail, local government, entertainment and leisure business with the police and CCTV control rooms. The new digital network enables multi-agency communication by providing separate talk groups for different disciplines within the retail, police, city centre and local authority teams.
PMR Products implemented RadioNet’s migration from analogue to digital technology with a TETRA network supplied by the Danish infrastructure supplier Damm while the compact size of Sepura’s hand-held radios made them easily carried by shop workers and mobile staff.
