Keith Bristow named new ACPO head of crime

Keith Bristow, the chief constable of Warwickshire Police, has been appointed as the new head of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) crime business area. Mr Bristow will take over from the chief constable of the British Transport Police, Ian Johnston, with effect from July 1, 2009.

Keith Bristow, the chief constable of Warwickshire Police, has been appointed as the new head of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) crime business area. Mr Bristow will take over from the chief constable of the British Transport Police, Ian Johnston, with effect from July 1, 2009.

ACPO president, Chief Constable Sir Ken Jones, said: “Driving innovation, best practice and effective operational approaches to tackling crime across the police service is at the heart of the contribution ACPO makes to public safety. Keith brings to this post a huge amount of energy and experience. For the past six years he has made a vital contribution to the crime business area through his work leading the violence and public protection portfolio and his appointment today sends a strong signal of our continuing determination to confront crime in all forms.”

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Bristow, said:“I welcome the opportunity to work with and on behalf of our president and members of ACPO to ensure that the ACPO crime business area makes a full contribution to enabling the police service and our partners to protect the public.

“In taking forward this work I would like to recognise the leadership and the significant personal contribution of Ian Johnston and his predecessors.”

Keith Bristow has been chief constable of Warwickshire Police since 2006. He leads the Government’s Tackling Knives and Serious Youth Violence Programme and is the chair of the G8 Law Enforcement Group.
