Essex Police is stronger than it has ever been. Record numbers of officers and police staff protect and serve a county which offers every possible challenge and opportunity for you to develop your career. With international air and sea borders, our proximity to the capital and a large rural community, the force is big enough to solve and prevent the most serious crimes, while retaining its sense of identity and a genuine police family culture.
At Essex Police, we are continually finding new and innovative ways to tackle crime and protect our communities and give the best possible service to victims and our public, led by a Chief Officer team who bring their experience from policing and other professions.
We’re a force that values everyone, that values professionalism and which is focused on delivering the best possible service.
Our main effort is clear: we tackle Violence, we support and safeguard Victims, we deal with Vulnerability and we make sure we are Visible to everyone, making sure we never take public trust for granted.
We are looking for a leader who shares our vision to protect people, keep people safe and to do even more to prevent crime. We have excellent relationships with national and regional partners, who not only want us to succeed but who work with us to make Essex even safer.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an inclusive, dynamic and collaborative leader with an exceptional operational background and outstanding leadership qualities to support the Chief Constable in leading the force.
This is an opportunity to lead colleagues of all ranks, grades and roles to ensure the force is skilled, equipped and enabled to deliver our force plan and to work with partners to prevent crime. The successful candidate will have exemplary leadership skills, strong public service ethos and be committed to leading in an organisation that innovates and values difference.
This is a role which is both strategic and operational and candidates will be expected to show how they can lead colleagues and work with other organisations to develop new approaches to keeping the County safe, to operationalise their work and to evaluate its effectiveness and efficiency.
Your reputation for delivering organisational wide performance, objective judgement and sophisticated decision making in a complex and sometimes ambiguous operational arena will need to be evidenced by recent success. Amongst many other responsibilities you will play a pivotal role in leading, developing and implementing strategies that continue to support victims, reduce violence, enhance visibility, prevent crime and protect those who are vulnerable within our society.
In return for your dedication, Essex Police will offer you a policing and organisational challenge that would satisfy the most aspiring police leaders to fulfil their ambitions.
Candidates must have previously served as a substantive Assistant Chief Constable (or equivalent rank) having completed the Police Leadership Programme (PLP) (Stage 5) (executive leaders) or the Strategic Command Course (SCC) and will be required to pass the necessary vetting checks required to attain the rank of Deputy Chief Constable before appointment.
